About

We are delighted to announce that the Heritage Lottery Fund has awarded Archif Menywod Cymru / Women’s Archive of Wales a substantial grant to record the oral histories of women who worked in the manufacturing industries throughout Wales between 1945 and 1975. The project will also involve photographing or scanning photographic evidence, documents and other material relevant to this history which our participants may have.

Mae’n bleser gennym gyhoeddi bod Cronfa Treftadaeth y Loteri wedi dyfarnu grant sylweddol i Archif Menywod Cymru / Women’s Archive of Wales i recordio hanesion llafar menywod fu’n gweithio yn y diwydiannau cynhyrchu ledled Cymru rhwng 1945 ac 1975. Bydd y prosiect yn cynnwys tynnu lluniau neu sganio tystiolaeth ffotograffig, dogfennau a defnyddiau eraill sy’n berthnasol i’r hanes hwn sydd ym meddiant ein cyfranwyr.

During this period hundreds of light industry factories opened in Wales, from the Laura Ashley factories in mid-Wales, to Triang toys in Merthyr Tydfil, Berlei Bras in Ebbw Vale and Mettoy in Swansea. A vast majority of the workforce in these factories were women but their stories have been almost forgotten and unless we capture them quickly they could be lost forever.

Yn ystod y cyfnod hwn agorodd cannoedd o ffatrïoedd diwydiant ysgafn yng Nghymru, o ffatrïoedd Laura Ashley yn y canolbarth, i deganau Triang ym Merthyr Tudful, Berlei Bras yng Nglyn Ebwy a Mettoy yn Abertawe. Roedd canran uchel iawn o weithluoedd y ffatrïoedd hyn yn fenywod ond mae eu storïau bron wedi’u hanghofio, ac os na chofnodir hwy’n fuan ânt yn angof.

The three field workers (covering South East Wales, South West Wales and North Wales) will work with volunteers to record and transcribe interviews from women who were involved in these industries. Look out for further information as the project gets under way!

Bydd y tair swyddog maes (yn y de-orllewin, y de-ddwyrain a’r gogledd) yn cydweithio â gwirfoddolwyr i recordio a thrawsysgrifio cyfweliadau’r menywod fu’n ymwneud â’r diwydiannau hyn. Cewch wybodaeth bellach wrth i’r prosiect ddatblygu o ddifri!
